I am going to be relocating to Utah within the next few weeks, and I am unsure of how readily available my cooking necessities(nutritional yeast, agave, ECT) will be, as well as how vegan friendly the area and restaurants are.
I am going to be living in South Ogden.
Anyone who can give me the low-down?
Thanks in advance!
Jamie.

If you were the Campus Lagann Adiane on Saturday, could you please comment?
I was the maid Nia, and we took pictures with an AU Simon, but I think I accidentally deleted your e-mail in the process of syncing my crackberry... :|

i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows

Well, since it looks like I won't be able to do the big, very well paying modeling job - this not having my car thing is seriously killing me - I've decided to pimp my housekeeping services out to the neighborhood. I'm going to draft up some flyers, charge insanely low, and post them around the neighborhood. Here's hoping!
Hopefully I can also get to the thrift stores and the library and get books to sell back for cash.
I think I need a new bottle of sleeping pills. :/ I lost mine, and my hallucinations started up again last night. Not terribly strong or anything, but enough to freak me out a small bit. I saw a man in my bedroom, crawling along my floor. My poor brain snapped awake immediately, recognizing those key signs that tell me I'm dreaming while still awake, but it was definitely unpleasant.
My Japanese eggplants are coming in wonderfully, though! And while it was touch and go for a bit with my sage, it's sprung to life this week. I'm going to have to transplant it again soon!
I think I'm going to defrost my cornish game hen and cook it tonight for dinner. I've got an ear of corn left, and some salad fixings. T'would be a good dinner. :D

"Piercings" for Haru-kun! I know there are ways to actually pierce the ears, but I didn't want to risk damaging anything, and since I'm not planning on ever changing or selling Haru, I just used crazy glue. XD It was really easy to stick them on there with the glue. It only left a little bit of excess gunk, and since it's clear you can't really see it.
For the two rings I used earring parts, and for the industrial (which isn't really finished as I didn't find anything to use for the ends) I used part of a straight pin.

Some of you may or may not know that about a month ago Seal-Alert South Africa had the amazing opportunity to buy out the entire Namibian Seal Hunt (for $14 million). I'm not 100% sure what's going on with it - I've pledged some money but am not sure where things stand at the moment. Noticeably absent, according to Francois Hugo's reports, were pledges from HSUS, IFAW, PeTA and other groups with huge base numbers. As he pointed out, HSUS has 11 million members - if everyone had pledged one stinky little dollar then they would have been sooooo close to completing the buyout.
And to be truthful, I have to express a great deal of negative surprise at the lack of interest this buyout deal has received from AR groups and activists alike. Come on, I mean, imagine if we can shut down one industry! How amazing would that be?
I don't know the ins and outs of Namibian seal hunting, but apparently it's more vicious than what happens in Canada.
I received this alert this morning:
Seal Alert-SA, Media Release, 16 July 2009
Namibian Sealers turn Clubs on undercover Film-makers
Details are sketchy. In Namibia near or around Cape Cross Seal Colony today at
7am, Namibian seal pup clubbers, were filmed killing seal pups. For which they
have no permit to harvest. Namibian seal clubbers then assaulted the film-crew. A
South African well known film-maker Bart Smithers and a Jim Wickens of Eco-storm, a
British citizen. They were beaten up by the sealers, and then arrested and put in
police custody in a vehicle. It has been further reported sealers then club into
the Police vehicle and further beat up the film-makers. Both are now being held at
the Police Station in Henties Bay.

HBP was great! As there were only a few quotes, most were repeated, I stuck them all on a shirt with the phrase "Fan Fiction is not J.K. Rowling, but is hilarious". Photos to shown when I get them off of my camera!
Also, did anyone think "It's my life!" when Fawkes was flying?
And, of course, with a new movie comes a new crop of OCs. So to get started on my huge backlog, here's Draco's savior!

FULL NAME: Emelie "Emma" "Em" Varnette
SPECIES: Witch
HAIR: blond
EYES: blue
MARKINGS: "not the skinniest" at 113. I'm assuming she is 5'4", as the Suethor is.
POSSESSIONS: A bubby, Sue-friend/foil named Abagail.
ORIGIN: Has been in Ravenclaw all along. We just never knew until now. She has some sort of family reputation as Draco calls her the "famous Varnette child". It is also a self-insert as the Suethor explains to us her history with eating disorders.
CONNECTIONS TO CANON: Bumps into Draco in the hallway. He is cordial to her, and she appraises his "strong arms". Then she finds out her crush doesn't like her, but her best friend, so she cries for a while. Then Draco sees her and acts concerned. She will be the reason why he can't kill Dumbledore.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Self-pity.
NOTES: I can't wait to read them bonding and baring their souls. I can see it now:
Emelie: My crush doesn't like me. *cries*
Draco: The Dark Lord is going to kill me and my family if I don't kill Dumbledore, and Professor Snape has to help me or die.
Emelie: And I'm FAT! I only weigh 113 pounds! Wahhhhhh!
Draco: Wow, that's way worse. I can't imagine your pain, it's so much worse than what I'm going through. If you can overcome all of those horrible hardships, so can I.

The Night, The Porch
by Mark Strand
To stare at nothing is to learn by heart
What all of us will be swept into, and baring oneself
To the wind is feeling the ungraspable somewhere close by.
Trees can sway or be still. Day or night can be what they wish.
What we desire, more than a season or weather, is the comfort
Of being strangers, at least to ourselves. This is the crux
Of the matter, which is why even now we seem to be waiting
For something whose appearance would be its vanishing---
The sound, say, of a few leaves falling, or just one leaf,
Or less. There is no end to what we can learn. The book out there
Tells us much, and was never written with us in mind.

Anyone knows if Dal Makhani is a vegan dish?
Sorry for the annoying entry, but: I'm looking for a quote, I think it's from a Neruda poem, something along the lines of "when my soul recognised something from your soul"? I've been looking all over for this & can't find it anywhere, but I could swear I didn't just make it up.
As a trade-off, here's a gorgeous poem by Mull poet Carla Jetko.
Advice to Virgins
When planting, consider the moon.
Trees : never place an oak and a walnut together.
wear blue velvet gloves to garden in,
Decorate your hope chest with origami birds,
Do the ecstatic hand dance.
Your roots go all the way down to zero.
plant horsehair in your bean trench to catch the cutworm.
Brush against the magnetic fields of purple sprouting broccoli.
To fulfil your desires, weave a hazel chaplet and wear it in your hair.
A necklace of violets is your charm against deception.
Feel the waterplant tides, xylem, phloem,
through the ebony of your otter hands.
Fatal to mint, is the ash from the fire.
Cradle armfuls of vervain for power over locks.
Use tea leaves leftover from fortune telling as a mulch for poems.
Pour yourself into the space between breaths.
Make wearing your wellies a walking meditation.

I am on a mission to freeze as many local greens as possible for the winter. Here is my current favorite way to put up swiss chard. I love pesto, but it is too heavy and oily for me. This cuts back on the oil (but not the flavor) and gives you the bonus of an extra serving of healthy greens.
1 bunch basil
1 bunch swiss chard
3-6 cloves of garlic, crushed
pinenuts or walnuts (a few tablespoons)
2 TBLS extra virgin olive oil (more or less depending on your taste)
vegan parmesan, if desired
Wash, stem, and steam the chard in a few tablespoons of water. I leave the leaves whole. Only steam until bright green, but soft. Transfer the chard to the blender. Blend until liquid. Add the basil leaves, garlic and oil and blend again. Salt to taste. I add the nuts and cheese right before serving. If freezing, I don't add the cheese and nuts until I defrost.

I think I've mentioned before that I work at my university, I give tours and take school kids on trips there and stuff. Anyway, yesterday I was there giving a group of all boys a tour. I was carrying my bag, which happens to have Naruto keychains hanging from it (*so cool*) and we were just talking about university.
Suddenly, one boy goes "Hey, is that Naruto?" My response was to go "OH MY GOD WHERE?" and abandon the tour in favour of looking around wide-eyed in an attempt to find Naruto.
It was fine though, turned out a load of the boys were fans and we had a big OMG DANZO WTF conversation. Still.

The Value of Modesty
Simeon Dumdum Jr.
As when a half-clad dockhand, blinded
By hunger, steps into the dusk of
A shack selling food, and while he
Trains his eyes at the naked girl
in the wall calendar, a woman
In a fresh and bright house dress motions
Toward the pots lined up below it,
Some of them without lids, and then
she warns, waving the flies away,
"Food's the same in all of them, but
Pot with cover will cost you more."
